The scientific journal "Applied Econometrics" has published an article by employees of the Institute for Law Enforcement Problems: Leonid Zhizhin, Alexei Knorre, Ruslan Kuchakov and Dmitry Skogarevsky. The work is called "What Crime Costs Russian Society: Measurement Using a Compensating Change in Income ".

Interestingly, the sphere of law and jurisprudence has been rather skeptical of the digital revolution. The tools of informatics seem to be highly suited to dealing with issues that arise in the course of legal affairs: The legal system consists of and is confronted with large bodies of complex textual data that follow rational and objective principles. Informatics is a science that promises to help solve this problem as it has brought about new insights on how to effectively organize und use complex data.

Mr. Clarke presented on the English anti-corruption law Bribery Act and it’s intentions (for nearly a year after its introduction there were no incidents of its application). Discussion participants included London Court of Arbitration judge Sir David Steel, Russian Bar Association member Elena Topilskaya, U.S. District Judge Mark Wolf, entrepreneur Aleksandr Lebedev, leading researcher at the Institute for Issues of Law Enforcement Ella Paneyakh, and others.

At the opening of the international conference "Law and Law Enforcement in Russia: Interdisciplinary Research", EUSP proudly hosted the lecture by the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation Valery Zorkin. In his speech, Mr. Zorkin elaborated on his vision of "the paths of Russia toward law". He touched upon the current situation with law enforcement practices and expressed his opinion on the issue of judicial precedent and its significance in Russia.
